Evidence-based Practice Briefs Many interventions exist for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Yet, scientific research has found only some of these interventions to be effective. The interventions that researchers have shown to be effective are called evidence-based practices (EBPs). One reason for using EBPs is because, by law, teaching practices must be based on evidence of effectiveness. Each brief in this list provides an overview and general description, step-by-step instructions of implementation, an implementation checklist, and the evidence-base which includes the list of references that demonstrate the practice meets the NPDC's criteria. Family Connections: A Mental Health Consultation Model Explore Family Connections, a preventive, system-wide mental health consultation and training approach to strengthen the capacity of early care and education professionals. Fascets : Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Consultation, Education and Training FASCETS; Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Consultation, Education and Training Services, Inc. services are designed to increase understanding, build on strengths, expand options for developing effective parenting and professional techniques, enhance existing programs and support development of new programs that work with children with fetal alcohol syndrome. Goals include reducing frustration, increasing effectiveness, improving outcomes, and preventing burnout in parents, professionals and people with FAS/ARND of all ages. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagonstic and Prevention Network The Washington State Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic & Prevention Network (FAS DPN) is a network of five WA State community-based clinics linked by the core clinical/research/training clinic at the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. The network was established through Washington State Senate Bill 5688 and support from the CDC, March of Dimes, Chavez Memorial Fund, and WA State Department of Social and Health Services Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Each clinic in the network uses the same interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis and the same systematic diagnostic method-the 4-Digit Diagnostic Code. The mission of the FAS DPN is primary and secondary prevention of FAS through screening, diagnosis, intervention, training, education, and research. Website
Fostering Resilience in Families Coping with Depression Research on children at Head Start age or older whose families face adversities, including depression, has shown that many children do surprisingly well. The word resilience has been used to describe the qualities of these children.
